Hopefully some of the more knowledgeable people will reply and fix my mistakes, but since no one has yet I'll take a stab at it:

Looks to me like May 28th 1962 is the block casting date (not to be confused with the stamped in assembly date that Cecil mentioned) Am I right about that Cecil?
Edit: I just realized after re-reading post #42 above that you have 2 blocks....and that one is a January date code. I'd bet one of the two is original to the car.....the build date on the trim tag should help determine that.
I would think the F 4 62 and F 6 62 heads would be a pair (June 4 & 6) and F 14 62 and F 21 62 would be another pair (June 14 & 21st) ...... which puts those two sets awfully close together which is cool.
I guess you could put the January 19th and April 16th heads together since they are mismatched date wise. They would work just fine to anyone not concerned with numbers.....or maybe sell them separately to someone looking for a single head to match theirs or someone looking for that particular date?? Or if the January 23rd block is the original one to the car you'd probably better keep the January 19th head with it.

I'm still unclear about how to know what year the 583's dated 236 are. It seems to me they could be August 23rd of 1964 OR August 24th of 1963. ?????

See if you can find the date code on your intake manifold(s?) as well. I have seen them under the heat shield before making that difficult....and I've seen them cast right on top. I can't remember if any of the W intakes have the date code on top like that.

I think it is likely Aug 24, 1963 for the 64 engines. My 64 heads were cast 115 and 134 of 63 for an Sept 16, 1963 assembly at Tonawanda for my late Sept built 64. By August 24 of 64, would they have still been casting 409 stuff? or already doing 396's for the 65's.

Cecil?

:doh You are right about it couldn't be August 24th of 65.....they would have been long stopped by then. I'm going to change that in my post above.

I am think the date is the 07A.....................July built during the first week...........The heads the owner pointed to as originals .....looks like are the F14 62 and the F21 62............these he had in the same corner w/ the block..........It sounds correct date wise per assembly...................I have alot to learn about these cars................I will look at the intake dates next...........the original intake still has the carbs on it..........

What would this short block be worth, or worth with a set of the 3814690 Hi-po heads and a pair of correct exhaust manifolds and a 3814881 duel carb manifold together.............I would think this would help fund the assembly of the correct engine for the car............Thanks
