i found this site when i was looking for info on how to identify a 409 truck engine. I found what i was looking for and I was able to use my phone to put the casting # in the search on this site. The engine was a 409 so I bought it for my 64 impala, so I will have many questions in the future and I think I will get the answers I need here. My first question is does anyone know of a machine shop good with 409s in my area NJ?

Welcome to the site!:beer
I can't help you with a machine shop in the NJ area but I think you're smart to ask that question. It's usually best to deal with a shop that is familiar with these engines. If you don't get any good suggestions for a shop through this post, try asking again in the "348/409 engines" section.
Good luck with your engine.
