Hi, I'm from Vancouver Island, British Columbia Canada. I just bought a 1961 Pontiac Parisienne Convertible, with 283 power glide.

Congrats on the Canadian Pontiac:deal, and welcome to the site.
At least your car is a V8... far too many were just 261's.
If you're going to 348-it, try to get a Canadian core ( different numbering ), that has the smooth valve covers ( no bowtie )

Is it identical appearing 283 like chevy or just a cubic inch with there own motor appearance. :dunno:dunno

Canadian Pontiacs of these years were all Chevy drive trains, x frames included. The only different engine was a 6 was a 261, not a 235. Same frame, engines, tranny, 2 piece drive shaft and rear end.
