the casting info; J182 GM 5, 3789812 P. I don‘t see any other code that tells the gear ratio. Any thoughts? Thanks, Steve

On the passenger side of the rear end housing ( opposite the number & letters you posted) there are stamped letters and numbers stamped into the metal face - they are hard to read without cleaning the housing with a wire brush and maybe some grease cleaner or metal cleaner.

take picture or post the numbers and letters - there is a table on this site showing the codes with the factory gear ratios tied the stamped letters and numbers.

Hi Paul. I cleaned the other (passenger) side rigorously with brake cleaner and a wire brush, and i didn’t see any markings. When you say metal face, is that toward the front of the unit or the rear where the filler plug is located? . I’ll give it another try. I’ll let you know what i find. Thanks so much for responding.

The side facing the front of the car.
the numbers and letters are stamped vertically not horizontal
