1960 Chevrolet Facts

"Nearest to perfection a lowest priced car ever came!"

"Superlative!"

While 1960 cars didn't see any major changes over the '59 models, subtle changes were made that greatly changed the cars appearance. Gone were the large cat eye tail lights as the round lights made their return from the 1958 model year. (the round style lights would remain through 1965) Also gone for 1960 was the fuel injection and air ride suspension options.

The El Camino which made its debut last year was kept again for 1960 however it would be the last year. The next time the El Camino would appear would be 1964 but would be built on the intermediate Chevelle platform rather than on the full size "X" frame chassis.

Standard engines for 1960 were the 135hp 235 six cylinder or the 170hp 283 V-8. Optional engines included; 230hp 283, 250hp 283, 250hp 348, 280hp 348, 305hp 348, 315hp 348, 320hp 348, 335hp 348, 340hp 348 and a 350hp 348.

Special note for this year: On June 17, 1960 the 43 millionth Chevrolet (an Impala convertible) was built.
