It started life as a Folgers coffee can!!
Why did they go out of favor?
I like it. 
People still drink Folgers!
Yep, but I'm not sure how the plastic containers would work.
We saved the old cans…used them for nuts and bolts…fishing worms…flower pots…etc. We were recycling and didn’t know it. Now we put the plastic ones in the trash.Yep, but I'm not sure how the plastic containers would work.

Being most everyone is bracket racing, the little extra advantage isn't needed.
Some still use them…heads up classes..stock and super stock. Many use water chillers between rounds. The goal is to be at 100-110’ at the starting line. Intakes are packed with ice bags in the staging lanes.
Why don’t others use them. It’s a lot of work. The gains are small…small matters only in heads up.
