'61 SS 409 Convertible up for Auction

Anyone know this car? Seems to be authentic, but sure am curious about that. Going up for auction in NC:

The cowl tag confirms that it's not an SS and it was originally a 283 car, so it can't be a matching numbers car, maybe date correct. The cowl tag also confirms that it originally had a blue top, which is rare. It's a nice car, but just another SS clone/tribute.

Carl, How about the VIN. Was the car made before the SS was even available?
The Baltimore VIN is correct for this car and the sequence number is spot on for the build date. It is generally believed that the first 61 SS were built in mid-late February 61 and the car was built in the 2nd week of March so it's not too early to be an SS, and coincidentally this car was built in the same week as a real SS that I have recorded that was built in Cleveland.

My brother had that exact car 60+ years ago that someone replaced the 283 with a 327. He wanted a 63 split window and our Dad said nope your getting the 61 convertible both were on the same car lot spinning wheel. Memories :drinking
