In the 70's around the Portland area were several 57 chev 4door wagons with the rear doors removed and the frame and body shortend to match I always thought they looked weird and way to much work to be worth the effort. I saw one a few years ago on a trailer :doh

Ported vacuum could be part of the problem I would switch to full time vacuum and see if that makes a difference
