They might fit anyway, but at the time, i was kinda in a rush, it was tight, etc. It might fit if the trans was installed after the engine was in place already. I didnt have the time, and didnt think of this till much too late.
Hammer work would do it, but i would want it to look more non-bubba, and it would always bother me because i was capable of better work than that. Say it like: too much pride to do a halfass job on it.
Yes, original heads. It really sucked, i didnt have the time to be screwing around very much, and was very disgusted and pissed so i said f this and put a 6 in it.
Paid 35 bucks for the car back in 85, 200 for the 348 in 86, 160 on trans rebuild, 600 on tires, and about 500 on brakes and fuel tank. And about 300 on starter, fuel pump, carb, points, wires, plugs, and such. Thats about what i got into her so far
I bought a 59 impala for the engine, took the 348 and put it in the belair back in 86. Trans is a saginaw 4 sp., 3.36 rear. Original was a 230 6 cyl with 3 on the tree.
I tried putting a 348 into a 67 1/2ton chevy once, discovered there was interference between the firewall and the back corners of the cyl heads. Cancelled the install, as i didnt want to do surgery on the firewall
